Insurance, payment & VAT

How does NHIS work for expats, and what do tourists pay?

Living in Korea

If you're enrolled in NHIS

Many registered foreign residents are enrolled in Korea's National Health Insurance; if you're not sure, check with NHIS or your employer. Insured treatment is billed at NHIS rates. Two benefits worth knowing: scaling once a year for adults, and up to two implants per lifetime for insured people aged 65 and over, with a co-payment of about 30%. Bring your residence card.

Visiting Korea

If you don't have NHIS

Visitors pay non-insured rates for everything. The clinic publishes its standard non-covered fees — for example, ₩1,100,000 per implant including the crown (approx. US$790). Everything else is quoted after consultation; see the  dental price list for Jamsil.

Cosmetic work

10% VAT, no tourist refund

Veneers, whitening and gum contouring are subject to 10% VAT. The tourist VAT refund for cosmetic procedures ended on 31 December 2025.

Paying and claiming

Cards and overseas insurance

The front desk will confirm payment options; as general advice, most Korean clinics accept major international cards. If you're with the US Forces, an embassy or an employer plan and want to claim from an insurer abroad, tell us when you book so we can tell you which documents are available.

Aftercare

What happens after I go home?

  • Keep regular check-ups.  Implants, crowns and veneers last better with professional review and cleaning.
  • The guarantee needs a yearly check-up.  The clinic re-treats implant fixtures at no charge within 3 years (50% at 3–5 years) and prosthetics at no charge within 1 year (50% at 1–3 years), excluding accidents, trauma and careless use. If you live abroad, ask how yearly check-ups will work for you before treatment starts.
  • Keep your records.  Ask for the details of your treatment so a dentist at home can maintain it.

Treatment results and recovery vary from person to person, and every procedure carries some risk. Each treatment page explains the specific risks — start with  dental implants in Jamsil  or meet  our specialist dentists.
