Who is sedation dentistry for?

Many people put off dental treatment because of fear or bad memories. Sedation is one way to make necessary treatment easier to go through.

  • Strong dental fear or anxiety.  If the thought of the dental chair stops you booking, tell us — sedation may help.
  • Several implants or full-mouth work.  Longer surgery is often more comfortable under sedation. See  dental implants  and  full-mouth implants in Jamsil.
  • Difficult wisdom teeth.  Impacted teeth can take longer to remove; see  wisdom tooth removal.
  • Several treatments in one visit.  Useful if you are short on time in Seoul, when combining treatment is clinically sensible.

How it works

Will I be asleep during sedation?

Not fully. Conscious sedation leaves you deeply relaxed and drowsy, but still able to breathe on your own and respond when the dentist speaks to you. The clinic describes it as similar in principle to the sedation used for a sleep endoscopy. Some people remember little of the treatment afterwards; others remember parts of it.

Local anesthesia is still used to numb the area being treated. The clinic uses a computer-controlled anesthetic delivery device to make injections more comfortable, and a pulse oximeter monitors your oxygen level during sedation.

Sedation is planned as part of your treatment by the specialist team. Implant surgery takes place in separate implant surgery rooms. You can read about the surgeons, including oral and maxillofacial surgeon Dr. Dong-hwan Hong, on  our specialist dentists page.

FAQ

Sedation dentistry in Jamsil, Seoul: common questions

Will I be unconscious?

No. Conscious sedation keeps you relaxed and drowsy, but you can still respond to the team. The clinic compares it to the sedation used for a sleep endoscopy.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Every sedation carries some risk. Your medical history is reviewed first, you are monitored with a pulse oximeter during treatment, and the team decides with you whether sedation is suitable.

How much does sedation cost at Standard Dental?

The sedation fee is not published; it is quoted after consultation together with your treatment plan.

Do I need to fast before sedation?

The team gives you written instructions about eating and drinking before your appointment. Follow those instructions rather than general advice online.

Can I go home on my own afterwards?

Your written instructions will say how you should get home and whether someone should accompany you. Plan to rest for the rest of the day.

Can I have several treatments in one sedation visit?

Often, if it makes clinical sense — for example several implants or extractions together. The dentist will tell you what can safely be combined.
