Who are dental implants for?

An implant replaces a missing tooth root with a small post in the jawbone, topped with a crown. Not every problem tooth needs one.

  • One or a few missing teeth.  Neighboring teeth don't have to be cut down for a bridge.
  • A tooth that can't be saved.  When the bone allows, the implant goes in the same day the tooth comes out.
  • Thin or low bone.  Bone grafting or a sinus lift can rebuild the site first.
  • Diabetes or high blood pressure.  Not an automatic no; your plan is made with collaborating specialists.
  • Many missing teeth.  If most of an arch is missing, see  full-mouth implants in Jamsil  instead.

How we work

How are implants planned and placed at Standard Dental?

The oral surgeon assesses the bone, nerves and sinus; the prosthodontist designs the final tooth and bite. Both work from the same 3D CT (Varian flat-panel sensor) and TRIOS intraoral scan, combined in CAD/CAM software so the implant's size, length and angle — and the crown — are customized to you.

Surgery takes place in separate implant surgery rooms with a 10-step sterilization process. The implant surface is treated in a UV activator just before placement, and an Osstell Mentor measures implant stability as a number. Grafts can use PRF made from your own blood. The clinic uses genuine parts only, and the crown is made in its in-house lab. Read about each surgeon on  our specialist dentists page.

Same day as extraction

Immediate implant

Placed right after the extraction when the bone is healthy enough.

Bone permitting

One-day implant

Implant and a temporary tooth in one day — offered only when bone width and density allow it.

Rebuilding bone

Bone graft & sinus lift

For bone that is too thin or too low. A sinus lift is the most demanding graft; both add healing time.

Guided surgery

Navigation implants

The implant position is planned digitally and transferred to surgery with a guide.

Second opinions

Implant re-surgery

For failed or problem implants, led by the oral surgeon.

Timeline

How long do dental implants take, and how many trips?

The timings below are typical, not guaranteed — your bone, health and any grafting decide the real schedule.

  1. Consultation and 3D CT

The specialist who will treat you reviews the CT and explains the options and costs.

  2. Implant placement

Under local anesthesia, with conscious sedation if suitable. Extraction or grafting can happen in the same visit.

  3. Healing

Typically about 2–4 months in the lower jaw and 3–6 months in the upper jaw while the implant bonds with the bone. Grafts lengthen this.

  4. Final crown

A digital scan, a crown from the in-house lab, then fitting and bite adjustment.

  5. Yearly check-ups

Regular reviews keep the implant healthy, and a yearly check-up is a condition of the clinic's treatment guarantee.

Risks & aftercare

What are the risks, and what does the guarantee cover?

  • Come back once a year.  Yearly check-ups catch problems early and keep the guarantee valid.

Treatment guarantee  (Fair Trade Commission standard terms; yearly check-ups required): implant fixture re-treated at no charge within 3 years, 50% of the normal fee at 3–5 years; implant crown at no charge within 1 year, 50% at 1–3 years. Accidents, trauma and careless use are excluded.

FAQ

Dental implants in Jamsil, Seoul: common questions

How much does a dental implant cost in Seoul at Standard Dental?

According to the clinic's published fees, ₩1,100,000 per tooth (approx. US$790) including placement and the crown, or ₩1,300,000 with a gold or PFG crown. Grafting is extra. The final cost is confirmed after examination.

How many trips to Korea do I need for an implant?

Usually two: one to place the implant and one to fit the crown after healing, typically about 2–4 months later for the lower jaw and 3–6 months for the upper jaw. A one-day implant with a temporary tooth is possible only when the bone allows.

Will I need a bone graft or sinus lift?

Only if the bone is too thin or too low to hold an implant. The 3D CT shows this before surgery, and the specialist explains the options and extra time and cost at your consultation.

Which implant brand do you use?

The clinic does not name implant brands on its website; ask the dentist at your consultation. The clinic's policy is to use genuine parts only. If you live abroad, ask for the details of your implant for your records so a dentist at home can maintain it.

Does Korean national insurance (NHIS) cover implants?

For people enrolled in NHIS aged 65 and over, up to two implants per lifetime are covered with a co-payment of about 30%. Visitors without NHIS pay the clinic's non-insured fee.

Does implant surgery hurt?

The surgery is done under local anesthesia, given with a computer-controlled delivery device to make the injection more comfortable, and conscious sedation is available. Soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards are common; how it feels varies from person to person.
